If you hear them say that saffron is the gold of Sardinia, don't think that they are exaggerating: this most delicate of spices is indeed worth far more than its weight in gold. Every stage in its production, from the growing and picking to separation and preserving, requires the greatest care and the utmost patience. Monreale Saffron selects for you only tips of the brightest red stigmas to obtain Red Quality saffron which when added to risottos and pasta dishes, meat or fish dishes, sweets and desserts, gives them a truly unique flavor. The excellent quality of Monreale Saffron is born of the respect for tradition and great attention to detail. The purple flowers of the saffron must be gathered only by hand, in the early morning as soon as they open. They are then placed in small baskets to protect them without crushing. Again by hand, the three stigmas are extracted and left to dry naturally, on wooden boards, until they become the red saffron threads. This procedure takes time and calls for skill and great care. Only at the end of this process will the best saffron receive the Monreale trademark.


This package contains 4 convenient 125 mg sachets of powdered saffron for 2-3 persons.

Penne with Vegetables and Saffron
Dice 1 red pepper, 2 zucchini and 1 eggplant. Brown them with garlic in a frying pan at moderate heat. Stir gently from time to time until the excess liquid has evaporated. Cook the penne, drain it and place it in the frying pan. Cook over moderate heat adding a sachet of saffron dissolved in warm water. Add salt and pepper and stir until thoroughly amalgamated. Serve with grated parmesan cheese. Serves 4 persons. Enjoy!
