The truffle’s intoxicating aroma and exquisite flavor led the ancient Greeks to imagine they were created by peals of thunder striking the earth. Truffles are in fact rare tuberous mushrooms that grow underground near trees and are hunted with the assistance of trained dogs and pigs. Harvested from May through December, this truffle grows both in sandy and clay soils, in woods and piney areas, including the wooded areas of Tuscany.
The Italian Black Summer Truffle>/b> has a tough and gritty black skin that helps to preserve this type longer than other truffles. Once cut the flesh becomes yellow. These EUGENIO BREZZI truffles are gleaming and visually stunning in their sealed glass jar.
