BARBERA extra virgin olive oil is pressed from Ogliarola olives grown midway up the hillsides of Sicily, and harvested by hand, just before they ripen, in December. Allowed to settle and decanted naturally, this rich and flavorful olive oil is then aromatized with the savors of the Mediterranean: natural extracts of sage, rosemary and oregano. An olive oil flavored with these herbs will enhance and complement the natural ingredients of salads and add definition to grilled meat or fish.
“To make an olive oil like mine, first you have to select the men, then the land and then the olives,” stated Manfredi Barbera, echoing the spirit of his forefathers.
Barbera Olive Oil of today is the fruit of a long family succession of producers of olive oil in Sicily. The Barbera family began cultivating olives and citrus fruits on a splendid estate in San Lorenzo ai Colli, not far from Palermo, in 1888. Through the experience of over 100 years of growing olives and producing award-winning olive oil, the Barberi family has identified the best olive growing areas, based on microclimatic and geographical conditions, between the provinces of Trapani, Agrigento and Palermo, on the western part of the island. Select native olive varieties are chosen for their texture, color, aroma and flavor: the assertive Cerasuola, the delicate Biancolilla, and the rich Nocellara.
