The Panforte is a typical Italian holiday cake originally created in Siena with all the taste of the renowned Italian confectioner Muzzi. This sweet and dense pastry specialty is spotted with candied fruits and roasted almonds, enriched with spices and dusted with a coating of vanilla sugar, resulting in a moist and delicate cake. It's rich and complex flavor will satisfy with only a tiny slice and is indeed so nutricious and full of energy that it was used as travel rations by Italian soldiers during the Crusades. Much like a gingerbread, the Panforte is a pastry with a long tradition and deep meaning. The spices of the Panforte are emblematic of the spices of life. Sugar and honey for life's sweetness, the dried fruit for strength and power, promising a long life.

The Muzzi dynasty dates back over 200 years to 1795, when, in a small confectioner’s workshop in the historic centre of Foligno, maestro Tommaso di Filippo Muzzi specialized in the production of the minuta, sugar-coated aniseed sweets. His descents were all named Tommaso and Filippo and continued to produce the delicious hard candies for decades. As the minuta tradition began to fade, it was up to another Tommaso, then another Filippo in the 20th century to start producing pastries and fresh cakes. Today, 207 years after it was founded, the antica pasticceria Muzzi is located in Loredana and managed by three more Muzzi descendants.
